Welcome to Mask-Making for adults. A workshop that explores our inner and outer worlds. Just in time for halloween!

Something that we all navigate as humans are the different parts of ourselves. Sometimes it may feel like we are wearing a kind of mask when we are out in the world. There may be times when we don't feel like we can be completely ourselves, that people might not really know us. This is our outer mask. We wear different masks with different people, at work, at home, etc.

Our inner world is this place that is completely and uniquely us. The part we might not always feel comfortable sharing with others. This program is designed to explore these two parts of ourselves, with curiousity, fun and to connect with others.

The Outline:

This is a one time workshop focusing on the exploration of our inner and outer worlds through the fun and play of creative arts. This workshop will run for 2 hours. All art supplies are included in this workshop! This workshop is run in a group format and may have up to 8 participants. You can expect a large buffet of art materials to explore, a cozy environment, music and discussion.

What to Expect:
Introduction to art therapy, instructor and group
Part one activity: Creating our outer mask
Part two activity: Creating our inner mask
A closing and sharing with the group.

Everyone works and creates at a different pace! Some may finish a little early, some may need more time. I am here to support throughout the whole process to help you complete your project. However, if it's not completed, you get to take your mask home and any supporting art supplies to finish! The goal of this workshop to get you reflecting on these different parts of self.

NO ART EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. If you have never picked up a paintbrush or crayon, this group is still for you. It's my job to help support you through a creative process and to help you reflect on what is showing up for you. Our goal here isn't to create something full of technique, skill and beauty. But to create because it feels good, meaningful or fun.

Need to know:

This program is considered to be non-clinical. This means that although this program is designed and facilitated by a professional art therapist and registered psychotherapist the intention is not to provide psychotherapy.

However, it is designed to be educational, fun and therapeutic. Art-making and play are naturally therapeutic modalities and this program is considered "art as therapy". I am here to support and educate the participants throughout the program.

You do not need to have any art experience to participate! This is not an art class, and I am not an art teacher. Although I am knowledgeable of art supplies and techniques, our goal is focused more on process than product.

So what does art have to do with it?

Art therapy is a process that allows us to be curious about ourselves through a gentle and creative approach. It provides us with opportunities to reflect, play and connect with ourselves in a tactile and visual way. It allows you to express yourself differently that doesn’t necessarily involve words. Human beings are innately creative. It’s a process that allows you to cultivate empowerment in your life, to understand your experiences, to reflect on your direction and to build a strong sense of self.
